Consumer Goods

Having carried out its activities as the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods Working Group until 2019, the Group changed its name and scope last year as the Consumer Products WG, including the Chemicals, Cosmetics and Retail sectors. During the new period where I will be acting as the Head of the Working Group, our group has set its agenda items and initially aimed to conduct an analysis study regarding the added value created by the sector and collect the relevant outcomes in a "Sectoral Report". We hope to make interviews with the directors of our member companies and identify what is needed to boost further investment in the sector within the scope of this study which will also cover the employment created in the sector, R&D activities specific for the sector as well as production and export figures. This study will form a basis for our communication with stakeholders in 2020.

Public policies, including predictability and the rule of law as well as bureaucratic barriers are other issues that we will closely follow. In this context, a detailed study covering the impact of the amendments introduced by the Cosmetics Regulation, has been prepared with the support of YASED's Law and Regulations Working Group. The study includes detailed evaluations regarding the legislation in question, which imposes a detailed notification/preliminary authorization requirement for the cosmetic products to be placed on the market for the first time and requires the uploading of some trade secrets (formula, recipe, production methods, etc.) into the electronic notification system.  This study was submitted to the Minister of Health and TITCK and shared with the Deputy Minister of Health Prof. Emine Alp Meşe during our visit.

Another agenda item has been the follow-up of the EU legislation in sectoral legislation and practices and the development of holistic sectoral policies supporting the investment environment. For this purpose, our group aims to share with stakeholders the legislative amendments that may adversely affect market entry and trade, and to develop solutions. The Working Group has maintained cooperation with other sectoral associations where our members have actively worked and discussed our common agenda items with them.  In 2020, we aim to execute an active communication process with our list of public stakeholders, to mention about the sector's contribution to the economy and to contribute to an increase in investments.

In 2019, the Group, which will act under YASED International Investment Center Council, prepared a list of stakeholders regarding public institutions so as to communicate more actively with the structure created with the new Government system. The Group also aims to convey agenda items regarding primary stakeholders and increase the volume of investments by informing the relevant authorities about the sector's contribution to the economy.

It is aimed to contribute to the increase of investments by carrying out an active communication process with the public stakeholder list prepared in 2020 and by explaining the contribution of the sector to the economy.

With Kovid-19, as the representatives of hygiene, personal care, chemical products and retail sector, the studies are carried out in order to ensure the greatest contribution to the fight against the epidemic, the continuity of the operations, and to prepare for the post-crisis period, and opinions are formed for consultation with the relevant public institutions.
