Trade

Active since 2008, the Trade Working Group works closely with its stakeholders so as to remove the obstacles encountered by YASED member companies concerning their foreign trade operations and to create a sounder business and investment environment.

Completing 2019 with an intensive agenda, the Working Group held a workshop in May with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Trade Mr. Tuna Turagay. The official letter containing detailed evaluations regarding our requests on our agenda items was shared by the Ministry with YASED following the workshop and the Group welcomed the elimination of some problems caused by the legislation through the amendments made by the Ministry to Laws, Regulations and so on. Furthermore, our request for participation in the Trade Facilitation Coordination Committee as YASED, which we raised in the workshop, was approved by the Ministry. It was decided to start contributing to the activities of the committee, which was established to fulfill the obligations stipulated in the WTO's Trade Facilitation Agreement, with our members starting from 2020.

A project was initiated with the Ministry of Trade in order to offer additional facilities to the companies holding the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) status within the scope of the policy intended for reducing the bureaucracy in which YASED is considered a responsible institution in the “2020 Annual Presidential Program”. A working group was formed with our members within the project, which aimed to encourage firms already holding an on-site customs clearance permission to start this process and to encourage firms with no permission to obtain this permission. The first phase of the project was completed with the publication of the regulation on the on-site customs clearance processes and the completion of the pilot project by our member company. The Group will continue to contribute to the efforts to extend the project within 2020.

The Group attended the meeting of NGO Consultation Council which was presided by the Minister of Trade Ms. Ruhsar Pekcan and of which YASED is a member, and the difficulties faced by our members in foreign trade operations and the relevant solution suggestions were presented to Ms. Minister. Within this platform, a Target Countries Working Group was formed with DEIK (Foreign Economic Relations Board) and TIM (Turkish Exporters' Assembly) and the working group started setting targets and forming action plans intended for boosting trade. The Group plans to pay joint visits to target countries with the Ministry of Trade in 2020. It is planned to repeat the workshop which was held with the Ministry of Trade, one of our primary stakeholders, and turned into a traditional event to discuss both the existing and emerging agenda items also during 2020.

With Kovid-19, close communication is maintained with the Ministry of Trade in order to adapt to the changing world order, take a more role as a country in the global value chain and minimize the impact of the epidemic on foreign trade operations.

Starting from the fact that trade and investments are an integral whole, the expectations and suggestions of our members regarding the sustainability of the trade will continue in appropriate platforms during both the epidemic and the transition to normal.
