YASED organized a "Personal Data Security" conference

 

The “EU General Data Protection Regulation (GPDR)”, which will enter into force in May, was discussed at the conference that was organized in Istanbul on March 29, 2018, with the participation of the members of International Investors Association (YASED), Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK) and foreign senior experts.

The most prominent data protection legislation – General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which constitutes the most significant reform in the privacy laws in Europe in the last 20 years, will enter into force on May 25, 2018. The reform has been devised to efficiently protect the privacy of individuals in today’s digital world and will be applicable for all enterprises at all scales, which process the personal data of EU citizens.

The International Investors Association (YASED), handled the matter which concerns not only the Europe but also all Turkish establishments that transact business with Europe, at the “EU General Data Protection Regulation (GPDR)” conference which was organized in Istanbul on March 29, 2018.

At the conference which was held with the participation of the representatives of the Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK), YASED Law & IPR Working Group, YASED members and foreign senior experts, the rules which are required to be complied with by the Turkish companies under the EU General Data Protection Authority (GDPR) and the Personal Data Protection Law, the potential sanctions and the measures required to be taken were discussed.

Significance of the protection of personal data

At the conference which was commenced with the speeches of Mrs. Özlem Özyiğit - the General Secretary of YASED, Mr. Selçuk Karaçay - Chairman of YASED Law & IPR Working Group and Prof. Dr. Faruk Bilir – President of the Personal Data Protection Authority; Mr. Peter Kits – Deloitte IP/IT &Data Privacy Department Partner gave a general presentation. In the first session of the conference which attracted great interest from YASED members; “International Transfer of Data, Binding Rules, GDPR’s application and the difficulties which may be confronted” were discussed, under the moderatorship of Mrs. Lerzan Nalbantoğlu - Leader of Sub-Group on Personal Data Protection of YASED and Chief Legal Counsel of Deloitte and with the participation of Mr. Felix Rolf Walter Allemann - Member of Board of Directors of YASED, Chairman of Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of Nestle; Mr. Peter Kits – Deloitte IP/IT &Data Privacy Department Partner and Dr. Ross Phillipson – Global Privacy, Cyber Security and IT Law Director of P&G.

The conference was continued with the panels on “Voyage of Compliance with GPDR and the Roles of Data Protection Controllers”, “Personal Data Protection Law”, “Data Security and Cyber Security”.
