YASED’s “World Intellectual Property Day” Message
In its message published for the “World Intellectual Property Day”, “Assurance of the Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights in Turkey at the level of international standards bears critical and great importance for ensuring a sustainable investment flow,” says YASED – International Investors Association.
In the message published for the “World Intellectual Property Day” by YASED – International Investors Association, it is emphasized that compliance of national Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights with international standards is a critical factor for sustainable investment environment, fair competition conditions in marketplace, and economic development and transformation.
After drawing attention to the fact that protection of Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights in a country plays an important role in investment decisions of multinational corporations, the message continues to say that assurance of the Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights in Turkey at the level of international standards bears critical and great importance for ensuring a sustainable investment flow. The message published by YASED in connection therewith also contains the following statements:
“In an era of globalization and digitalization of the world economy, the ‘national competitive power’ concept is gradually gaining more and more importance step by step. Knowing that the economies based upon intellectual and industrial property rights are gaining a global advantage over their competitors, YASED has adopted it as a priority to establish an investment environment protecting the intellectual and industrial property rights with a view to attracting and drawing high added value investments into our country.
Within this framework, the Industrial Property Law enacted and put into force in 2017 is an important step taken forward in this path. However, for the sake of increase and sustainability of investments, the protection of trademark rights, the fight against counterfeit goods, and some other improvements aiming to protect investors in such special areas as healthcare, information technologies and software are also greatly important. It is unequivocal that progress of Turkey in strict compliance with international norms in intellectual property rights field will directly enhance the competitiveness of our country for international direct investments.”
It is also stated in the message that in 2018 Intellectual Property Rights Protection Index of the Property Rights Alliance (PRA) monitoring the developments in countries in the intellectual property rights field, Turkey is ranked 66th among 125 countries, and 12th among 24 countries in the Eastern Europe and Middle Asia Region.
