“Our young people are our most important assurance in our country's growth and global competitiveness”

Ayşem Sargın, YASED (International Investors Association) Chairperson, issued a written statement on the occasion of 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.

Highlighting the quote by the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic, who said "All my hope is in youth,", Sargın underlined the key impact of our youth, whom Atatürk keenly attached importance, in accurately positioning Turkey in tomorrow's world and said, "Bringing in their competencies and vision, our young people will assume critical responsibilities in the future of our country."

"In today's world where global competition is getting fiercer each day, the way to becoming a winner in the new world order crosses through rapidly adapting our qualified human resources, business processes and digital infrastructure to change and transforming them altogether. At YASED, we believe the investments we will make for the development of our young people, the most important asset in this transformation, will contribute to the sustainable development and competitiveness of our country. I hereby celebrate Turkey's 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day."

"Digitalization agenda should be expedited"

Referring to the importance of digitalization in the new world order, Sargın said, “Digitalization is an important theme in terms of return on investment and has become a factor that defines the global competitiveness of countries. It is critically important for our country to make progress with digitalization, a key prerequisite to attract high added-value investments which Turkey needs. At YASED, we share our members' global experience and best practices with all relevant stakeholders, chiefly public institutions, and make joint efforts.

Our human resources is the most important capital for our country's sustainable growth and global competitiveness. We want to see our young people at positions and offices to guide the global agenda. It is thus extremely important that we improve their competencies and establish the required physical and legal infrastructure in areas which will render them competitive in the business world of the future.”

Sargın said the digitalization agenda had to be expedited to ensure the most efficient economic recovery, reinstate competitiveness to pre-pandemic levels and even further improve it: "In the wake of all recessions we had in the last three decades, we have observed an increased importance on automation and digitalization but we expect the changes the pandemic introduced in our way of doing business and our business models to further expedite the development in this field. At YASED, one of our working areas under the theme of 'investing in the future of our country' for the 2019-2021 period is to increase our country's share in global supply chains. Another work item is digital transformation in the economy. Both of the themes has become our priority today due to the current developments. Yet it will be the competencies and efforts of our young people that will be decisive for success under both themes."
